(NBC NEWS) A passenger plane carrying more than 140 people has crashed in the French Alps, officials said Tuesday, warning there might not be any survivors. French President Francois Hollande confirmed the “tragedy” near the town of Digne, saying that the wreckage of the plane is in a hard-to-reach area. “There were 148 people on board,” Hollande said in a televised statement expressing solidarity with the families of the victims. “The conditions of the accident, which have not yet been clarified, lead us to believe there are no survivors.”
