FEMA to Cut Disaster Prep Funding to Governors Who Deny Manmade Climate Change

State governors will now have to deny climate change at their own peril: A new policy from FEMA will cut mitigation funding to governors who don’t adopt plans to reduce the effect of natural disasters caused by anthropogenic climate change. (In layman’s terms, FEMA is saying: Okay, you don’t think climate change is really caused by humans? You don’t want to put plans into place that could reduce the damage made by weather caused by climate change? Well, it looks like you don’t want the money we could have given you to prepare for that disaster. Can’t give you money you don’t want, kbye .) According to Inside Climate News, the policy would incentivize governors to adopt plans to protect the state from effects of climate change, such as flooding, hurricanes, rising sea levels, extreme weather, and droughts. This change to the policy, which already requires states to submit disaster preparedness plans every five years, could potentially result in hundreds of millions of dollars of extra funding: “Over the past five years, the agency has awarded an average $1 billion a year in grants to states and territories for taking steps to mitigate the effects of disasters,” Inside Climate News reports. However, such a plan would have to come from these governors admitting that manmade climate change is a thing — an admission that several governors are not willing to make and, allegedly, have fired people for suggesting : “This could potentiall
