While there won’t be any television shows debuting after the Super Bowl this year (The Blacklist will be resuming its second season), plenty of other years in the past have used the big game as a springboard for fantastic ratings success—both for the episode after the Super Bowl and for episodes and season to come. And, while there have been plenty of failures, too (so it goes with television), we’ve had more than a few breakout success thanks to almost unreal numbers of people that tune into the Super Bowl (111.5 million last year!). Family Guy Arguably the most recognizable show on the list, Family Guy premiered with ‘Death Has a Shadow,’ an appropriate name after a Broncos-Falcons Super Bowl I distinctly remember being non-competitive. Jimmy Kimmel Live! One of the sneaky-best late night shows on television these days, Jimmy Kimmel got his network TV start after Super Bowl XXXVII. Unfortunately, there was no way the premiere could top the Super Bowl in terms of pure comedy, coming after that Buccaneers-Raiders laugher that traumatized the Raiders organization into years of languishing in existential crisis that even today shows no signs of abating.
