Since the grand jury decisions in Ferguson, Missouri and New York City, protesters have made their voices heard in cities and town across the country and here in our area. Groups have called for change following the deaths of two unarmed black men at the hands of white police officers. In Boston, organizers are reportedly planning a “die-in” during the city’s First Night celebration. Die-ins typically involve a group of people lying on the ground in busy streets and public areas. Boston has seen its fair share of protests which have included people marching and chanting peacefully, although others have disrupted traffic and have been arrested. Some people were upset when protesters demonstrated at the Boston Common tree lighting ceremony earlier this month, with concerns being raised yet again for First Night—another family-oriented event.
