Christmas has come early for football player Ray Rice. The former Ravens’ running back has won his appeal to return to the NFL after commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him indefinitely for punching his then fiancée Janay in an elevator earlier this year. An arbitrator came to the conclusion that Ray did not lie to Commissioner Goodell about attacking Janay and that his suspension should therefore be vacated. Though their testimonies haven’t been released due to a gag order imposed by the judge, there’s no doubt Janay Rice’s words and her decision to stand by her man had an effect on the successful appeal. From the beginning, Janay’s played the role of a supportive girlfriend and then wife, even marrying Ray a day after a grand jury indicted him on criminal charges. In an “as told to” interview with ESPN’s Jemele Hill, Janay opens up for the first time about the incident. She says she still finds it hard to be labelled a “victim” because she’s actually a strong woman who comes from a strong family and was never abused. She also paints a picture of events that transpired before getting knocked out cold by her husband, her parents reaction and what she plans to tell her daughter about the incident when she is old enough to understand what happened.
