The man expected to lead the Democrats in the Senate after Harry Reid retires is very much at odds with the Obama administration on Congress’ role in accepting a deal with Iran. President Obama yesterday said Congress can assert its role, saying, “My hope is that we can find something that allows Congress to express itself but does not encroach on traditional presidential prerogatives.” But top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer today released a statement saying that Congress should get behind legislation proposed by Republican Bob Corker that would give Congress approval power on a deal: “This is a very serious issue that deserves careful consideration, and I expect to have a classified briefing in the near future. I strongly believe Congress should have the right to disapprove any agreement and I support the Corker bill which would allow that to occur.” Back in 2013, Schumer expressed his disappointment in a deal reached then about their nuclear program. At the time, he said, “This disproportionality of this agreement makes it more likely that Democrats and Republicans will join together and pass additional sanctions when we return in December.” [ image via Facebook ] – – Follow Josh Feldman on Twitter: @feldmaniac
