The battle between ridesharing app Uber and the taxi industry in Australia has heated up again, with each side hoping the government will save them A competition review report on Wednesday renewed the fight between them. The long-awaited Competition Policy Review by Ian Harper , released on Tuesday, lists taxi and ridesharing as a priority areas where regulation review is desperately needed in Australia. The review highlighted the lack of innovation and heightened costs due to taxi regulation in the country. “The focus of reform in the taxi industry needs to be twofold: to reduce or eliminate restrictions on the supply of taxis that limit choice and increase prices for consumers; and to encourage technological change that can benefit consumers," the report stated.
