Lunar Eclipse April 4th, 2015

Source: ireport.cnn.com - Saturday, April 04, 2015

The total lunar eclipse, aka "Blood Moon" was mostly a letdown. The camera sensor was able to pick up some of the red but it was not visible at all with the naked eye. This may have been partially due to the overcast weather but I have seen others in North America make similar claims. That said, it was still worth it to see the penumbral part of the eclipse. It was very neat to watch the Earth's shadow slowly cover the moon and to experience the landscape around me get darker and to see the stars and milky way slowly fight their way back into the night sky. All photos were taken from Tucson, AZ from the start of the penumbral eclipse (Around 3:15 am) through the end of the total lunar eclipse (around 5:15 am). Also worth nothing, they were taken with a Canon 70D with a 300 mm lens at f/5.6 with varying shutter speeds and ISO. The wide photograph that shows the progression of the eclipse is made up of several photographs taken about 10 minutes apart from each other. The second photograph was taken 5:25 am as the moon was coming out of its total eclipse and as the sun was starting to rise behind me.
