Abbott told a packed house of government and business leaders at the Westin Galleria Hotel that the state of the state of Texas is strong, and hopes to make it even stronger during the upcoming legislative session. He credits the state's economic success to the diversity of its population: "There's a reason why Texas is leading the nation, and it's because of our greatest natural resource. And of course, that natural resource is not oil and gas. Our greatest natural resource is the people of the state of Texas," said Abbott. Abbott outlined a list of priorities, what he calls emergency legislative items. He says his investment in things that will keep Texas ahead include: "The need for better schools. The need for more roads. The need for border security, the need for more jobs. They want less government and lower taxes, and they deserve ethics reforms," said Abbott. Governor Abbott says our lives are defined by the challenges we face, and how we respond to them.
